BET’s Sunday Best winner Geoffrey Golden is building GOD’s Kingdom…
Geoffrey Golden, winner of BET’s Sunday Best 2014, is truly a renaissance man. Not only a spectacular performer and songwriter, Geoffrey is an outstanding student and minister of God’s word. Golden is a student of my infamous Alma mater, Morehouse college–home of world leaders and world changers.
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Geoffrey has been on a relentless quest to fulfill his mission of glorifying God. I met Geoffrey, when he was a sophomore; he was the only sophomore taking senior-level economics’ courses. To be honest, Geoffrey was such an amazing student, he would take time out to study with some of his class-mates who were struggling in challenging courses like econometrics. If you don’t know what that is, you’re very lucky.
Amid one of our study sessions, I spoke to Geoffrey about my plans for The Limelight; he offered me his advice and assistance in it’s development. He went on to tell me about a song that he had been working on, “Greater.” I had met many people who were “singers,” so I was absolutely blown away by the level of talent that I had just witnessed. I couldn’t believe that he could be so humble, yet be so gifted academically and musically. The following semester, I invited Geoffrey to participate in one of our Limelight Showcases where we had brought together a group of major labels and management executives. Needless to say, Geoffrey brought the house down; his performance took us to church! He owned the stage, and momentarily, we were all in Sunday morning worship. I knew then, more than ever, that Geoffrey was indeed blessed with unlimited potential.
During our show preparation, Geoffrey requested to miss rehearsal, so that he could audition for Sunday Best. Of course, I was more than willing to accommodate his ambition. My objective is to support and help artists to build the foundations for their next steps. Somehow, I knew that his next step would be a leap–and it was. Truthfully, I had never watched every episode of BET’s Sunday Best before, but I couldn’t help it–with season 7. It’s always great watching one of your brothers reach their goals, but it was more than that. Geoff was cut the season before, but he did not allow that to discourage him. From the first episode, he was in a league of his own. I am proud to have had an opportunity to work with someone like Geoffrey. I value the lesson of persevering despite the challenge; there is power in courage; sometimes, all it takes is having faith and believing in yourself.
The blessings really begin to fall, when you realize that good or bad what you experience is a blessing from GOD. In times of trials, it can be preparation or a test of faith. One must consistently realize that all of the help that you will ever need will come, when you choose to acknowledge the provider of your strength. Geoffrey Golden’s music is ministry for those who are at a low point–all the help that you need is a call away. Moreover, those who are blessed are encouraged to remember the source of the favor that you may have been blessed to receive.
